Privacy policy

What we collect when you enquire about a driveway clean, why we need it, who else touches it, and how to get it back or have it deleted. Written to be read rather than skimmed past.

Who this policy applies to

This policy explains how Brisbane Driveway Cleaning handles personal information collected through this website and through the enquiries that come to us by phone and email. It applies to anyone who contacts us about a quote or a booking, and to anyone who simply visits the site.

We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the thirteen Australian Privacy Principles set out in it. We are a small service business, so the amount of information we hold is small and it is all connected to quoting and carrying out work.

What we collect

The enquiry form on this site asks for the details we need to quote a driveway clean and get back to you. Nothing on the form is collected for any other reason.

  • Your name
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address
  • The suburb the job is in
  • Your message, including anything you tell us about the surface, its size and its condition
  • Any photos you choose to send us of the driveway or surrounding area

If you call us instead, we take the same details verbally. If we come out to quote, we note the address of the property and measurements of the area to be cleaned, because a quote cannot be produced without them.

We do not ask for and do not want sensitive information as the Privacy Act defines it. That means no health information, no financial account details through this website, and nothing about your background or beliefs. Please do not send any of it to us.

Why we collect it

We collect these details so that we can reply to your enquiry, price the work, book a time, carry out the job and follow up afterwards if something needs sorting out. Without a way to contact you and a description of the surface, we cannot quote at all.

We may also use your details to answer a later question about work we have already done for you, and to keep a basic record of what was quoted and what was carried out.

How we use it, and what we do not do with it

Your information is used to run the job you contacted us about. It is not sold, rented, traded or given to anyone for their own marketing, and it never will be.

We do not add you to a marketing list from an enquiry alone. If we ever start sending anything promotional you will have opted in to it, and every message will carry a way to opt straight back out.

We will only disclose your information outside the business where you have asked us to, where it is needed to deliver the service, or where we are required to by Australian law.

Service providers who handle it

Like most small businesses we use a handful of ordinary online services to run the website and the inbox, and your enquiry passes through them. We describe them by what they do rather than naming them, because providers change.

  • A website hosting provider, which serves the pages of this site and records standard server logs
  • An email delivery provider, which passes the completed enquiry form through to our inbox
  • An email provider, where the enquiry is then received, read and stored
  • A website analytics provider, which reports on how the site is used in aggregate

These providers may store data on servers outside Australia. We choose providers that publish their own privacy terms and handle data under recognised standards, and we only pass on what the service actually needs to function.

Cookies and website analytics

This site uses analytics to understand how people find and move through the pages, which tells us what is useful and what is not. That reporting is aggregated. It counts visits, pages, devices and referral sources rather than identifying you personally.

Analytics of this kind normally relies on cookies, which are small files stored by your browser, and on your IP address in a truncated or anonymised form. If you would rather not take part, every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, and most offer a do-not-track setting. Blocking them will not stop the site working.

We do not use cookies to build a profile of you, and we do not use them to sell advertising on this site.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not turn into work are kept only as long as they are useful for following up, and are then deleted from our inbox. Records connected to work we have actually carried out are kept for as long as Australian tax and business record-keeping law requires, which is generally at least five years.

If you ask us to delete your details we will do so, unless we are legally required to keep a record of a job that has already been completed and invoiced. If that applies we will tell you what we have to keep and why.

Keeping your information secure

This website is served over an encrypted connection, so anything you type into the enquiry form is encrypted in transit. Access to the inbox and to job records is limited to the people in the business who need it to quote and carry out work.

No method of transmitting or storing information online is completely secure, and we will not claim otherwise. If a data breach ever occurred that was likely to cause serious harm, we would notify affected people and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme requires.

Accessing and correcting your information

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you and request a copy of it. You can also ask us to correct anything that is wrong, out of date or incomplete, and to delete details we no longer need.

Send the request to brisbaneqlddrivewaycleaning@gmail.com or call (07) 2102 1228. We will confirm who you are before releasing anything, and we aim to respond within thirty days. There is no charge for making a request.

If you want to complain

If you think we have mishandled your personal information, tell us first. Email brisbaneqlddrivewaycleaning@gmail.com or call (07) 2102 1228 and set out what happened. We will look into it and write back to you with an answer, normally within thirty days.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle the complaint, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, which is the national privacy regulator. The OAIC can be reached at oaic.gov.au, by phone on 1300 363 992, or by post at GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the business or the services behind the website change. The current version always sits on this page, and the effective date at the top of the page tells you when it last changed.

How to contact us

Any question about this policy, or about the information we hold on you, goes to the same place as everything else.
